RMA Self-Defense/Haganah

Haganah - the Self Defense Solution (class schedule)
When you want to be able to defend yourself and your loved ones - you don't want it to take years to learn. Traditional martial arts take years to perfect, introducing material in stages that delay becoming at all effective in defending yourself. Reality based self-defense systems typically teach material that is either too little to be effective, or requires too much skill and time to become proficient.
Haganah does neither. Haganah, an Israeli system developed by Israeli Special Forces veteran and world-class martial artist, Mike Lee Kanarek, is practical, can be learned by just about anyone in any condition in just a few months, and can be completely absorbed quickly.
Haganah's philosophy is that no one has the right to touch you with malicious intent and anyone who does should be dealt with immediately and aggressively to enable you to be safe and secure at the end of the day. All Haganah's tactics are hardcore. They are fast. They are effective. Whether you are a housewife or a homeland security professional, Haganah has a program that will enable you to achieve your goals and meet your self defense needs.
Best of all, every Haganah program will keep you in prime condition and help you boost energy and manage your weight. You won't even focus on it because you'll be learning so much - It will just happen.
Haganah - it's not just a self defense system - it's your self defense solution.

F.I.G.H.T. is designed for worst case scenarios, when escaping from the situation may not be a viable option. All tactics are Haganah and therefore combat proven. In every situation where you can't escape, you learn three options: restrain, incapacitate or terminate the attacker. You decide what is legally and morally justified and necessary based upon the circumstances, not the type of attack. This is a key concept. Many programs only teach degrees of force based on the attack coming in. A pin to a wall by a drunk at a friend's house doesn't equate to a pin to a wall by a stranger in your own home in the middle of the night with other intruders heading toward a family member. The attacks are the same - the end tactic needs to be different.
Haganah's F.I.G.H.T. Program is taught to civilians, law enforcement and other professionals across the country. Individuals from doctors to chefs to police defensive tactics instructors train in F.I.G.H.T., all together. F.I.G.H.T. is taught at the U.S. military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where terrorists are detained. And it is here for you.
Just about anyone can do it, regardless of strength, size, or physical fitness. You'll get in great shape, have an absolute blast and get the same kind of confidence that the professional operators who train in F.I.G.H.T. do - the confidence that comes from knowing you can handle whatever situation you might encounter. It's confidence that comes out not only in physically threatening situations (which will hopefully never occur) but also in your daily life.

Fast, Practical Training Unlike many other systems which teach according to a belt level curriculum, adding techniques according to the rank level and seniority of the student, Haganah exposes you to the entire core system in just four months. We have carefully picked the eighteen most common street attack scenarios and a variety of knife defenses and gun disarms to work from. Training is conducted in a 4 month rotation system - you can start right away and cover the whole system in just 4 months.
F.I.G.H.T. is all meat - no fat.
By limiting the variety of combat strategies, your learning time is accelerated and your depth of understanding and skill level are increased. You become adept at quickly reacting to attacks and, if necessary, improvising to achieve your desired result.
Our unique Technique Funneling© approach is the key to enabling you to learn so quickly and become proficient. Regardless of how you are attacked, our tactics bring you to just a few control points called "Points of Reference", where you switch from victim to victimizer - and control the outcome of the situation. From the point of reference on, the tactics are repetitive. This means that you get to use them many times in a short period. You'll be amazed by the fact that you'll become expert at finishing the fight within just weeks.
High Tech Learning Support
The F.I.G.H.T. Program's training sessions are supported by a 3 DVD Series and training Manual that help you by letting you preview material before you learn it then review and practice it afterwards. This support is coordinated with the classes you take and is specifically designed to enable you, a busy adult, to get the most out of your training. It is unique. And, it means you get capable faster than in any other program.

Self Defense And Fast Escape (S.A.F.E.) uses simple, effective, easy to learn techniques from the Haganah system. It has a variety of specialty focuses for different populations who have unique self defense requirements - women, teenage girls, even executives who travel. It enables you to quickly stop the most common attacks and quickly create an opportunity to escape from an attacker. S.A.F.E. does not rely on strength or size - it relies on knowledge. It teaches you to overwhelm, not overpower, your attacker.
Anyone can do it!
The Self-defense And Fast Escape (S.A.F.E.) Women's Specialty Program enables women to quickly stop the most common attacks and create an opportunity to escape from an attacker. S.A.F.E. does not rely on strength or size - it relies on knowledge. It teaches you to overwhelm, not overpower, your attacker.
You will become stronger, more confident and you will develop your reflexes to respond to an attack with simple maneuvers that are based on your natural instincts. You will learn how to increase awareness, to avoid danger and, if attacked, how to act decisively to end the attack immediately and get away.
S.A.F.E. features include defenses and counters against common attacks towards women including:
- Chokes
- Slaps
- Headlocks
- Grabs (including hair grabs)
- Bear hugs
- Knife threats
- Positions on the Ground (Common Rape Attempts)
You get more than feeling secure.
Not only do you enjoy the benefits of learning self-defense, but with S.A.F.E. you also get a great light workout without having to go to a gym. Each class begins with a sufficient warm-up period to avoid injury, provides continuous dialogue to explain the purpose of each move, encourages questions and brings as much realism to the classroom as possible to encourage each participant to use their power. The result is a more toned, flexible body, stress relief and the self-confidence to know you can protect yourself and the ones you love. And, the classes are fun!
You're not alone.
Every class you will have a training partner. She is taking S.A.F.E. for the same reasons you are. It helps to work with another woman. Class size is limited to ensure one-on-one attention from an instructor. And during reality drills, we have male instructors and assistants to use as "dummies" to train with. This is a critical component of your training, teaching you to adjust to and not be frozen by the reality of an assault.
It's Fast - It's Complete
S.A.F.E. is designed to help you get capable in just 3 months - twice a week. It's not going to take years of training. Also, S.A.F.E. is a complete program. It not only prepares you physically but mentally as well. A real attack is terrifying. Most people's first reaction is shock followed by an ineffective response. How long that shock lasts and what you do afterward can make the difference in the outcome. Your training is designed to de-sensitize you mentally and physically and reduce the initial shock that occurs when you are unexpectedly attacked. This gives you an opening to react faster. Your tactics training "programs" you to then react effectively. This gives you the opportunity to escape.
How do I get started in Haganah?
First - you need to see if it is for you. We make this easy. We give you a free week - no obligation. You can take (or watch) any class you want. This makes it easy to decide if this is really for you. Most people like it so much, they decide they want to do it after their very first class. It's conveniently scheduled and doesn't require a long term commitment to greatly increase your safety and physical condition. Although we try to give you a look at what we do via this website, seeing is believing. Take an hour out of your life and come in to try some free training. Put yourself in a position to make an informed decision.
All sorts of people. Haganah has specialty programs for virtually every type of individual. Doctors, lawyers, administrative assistants, people from all walks of life, students, police officers, military units, teens and many others train in Haganah. Programs are focused on the population served. Adults train together - a mix of professionals and civilians train in our open classes.
Do I have to have experience in martial arts in order to learn Haganah?
No. Haganah is designed to be simple-to-use and quickly learned. The movements are based on natural reactions and are not difficult to pick up. Haganah, unlike many traditional martial arts, isn't meant to be "beautiful." It's meant to be effective. And to reach that level of effectiveness in the shortest period possible. Haganah has to be all of this. The system is based on tactics taught in the Israeli Military. Israel has a mandatory military service requirement therefore its military must teach all Israeli civilians to be effective combatants quickly regardless of their background. You get the benefit of a system designed to teach average people (both men and women) to protect themselves in all types of situations.
All Haganah programs are based upon this approach.
Interestingly, we have lots of students who do have martial arts experience. Virtually all say that Haganah what they rely on for self defense in a real life attack. In competition, it's their martial arts training. In the street, it's Haganah.
Do I have to be in good physical shape before starting classes?
No. Our classes will soon get you in great shape, but you'll be able to pace yourself as your strength and endurance build. It won't be long until you surprise yourself with what you're able to do.
If I sign up for Haganah, can I take fitness and conditioning classes also?
Yes. Although every class results in conditioning and fitness improvement we encourage you to take our F.I.T. program classes too - at no extra charge! These classes will take your body to the next level. Even if you are not in good shape when you come to us, your self defense classes will give you so much energy that you will soon want to expand your training. The F.I.T. and self defense classes are designed to build off each other - as your endurance and power build in the F.I.T. 2 FIGHT and/or F.I.T. Specialty classes, you'll notice an improvement in your Haganah skills.
I'm in my early-40s. Am I too old to start learning Haganah?
Most definitely you are NOT. Our self-defense and fitness classes are geared toward adults. While most of our students are in their 20s and 30s, we have trained people well into their 60s.
No, you'll work with other students in class and assistant instructors. It is a very friendly atmosphere at HaganahUSA - those who are more experienced are paired up with those who are less experienced. In a safe, team oriented approach, people work together to achieve a common goal. Even so, couples, friends and families often join together to work out with each other.
Is Haganah really different than other martial arts systems out there today?
Very much so. Haganah is not a sport based system modified to deal with self-defense situations. Haganah is a self-defense system built from the ground up and tested in combat. Haganah integrates unarmed and armed combat, including gun and knife use, from many different sources to create practitioners capable or dealing with any type of self-defense situation. Even though you may not take a single course in armed combat, and you certainly won't take the specialty courses designed for law enforcement and military members, you benefit from their existence in the system. Those elements ensure that everything you learn is real - it's effective and tested.
Haganah combines its elements in very unique ways to create new approaches. Although common attack scenarios are covered in Haganah, Haganah is not a scenario based system per se. It focuses on achieving certain common objectives in virtually all scenarios, thereby making it easier to learn and more immediately effective than many systems. Finally, unlike many other self-defense systems, Haganah does not use a hierarchical belt system where it can take years to learn the most effective advanced material. It uses a rotation system where substantially all hand-to-hand defensive tactics material is presented within three to four months. Only one belt can be achieved- Black Belt- in recognition of an expert practitioner.
About the Haganah Self-Defense System
Haganah is primarily a mix of Israeli martial arts - called Krav Maga and Hisardut - and Israeli military systems. The approaches are all combat-proven to work in a real life setting against today's types of threats. All are blended together in a unique way so that only the strongest most tactically sound approaches from each system are used. There are no uniforms; no bowing. Only practical, simple to learn material is included. It is innovatively structured, using tactics unique to Haganah and oriented toward maximizing an individual's effectiveness in the minimum timeframe. Haganah represents the best tactics in use by Israeli Special Forces operators, police and other professional confronted with violence on a daily basis. To this day Haganah is enhanced by updated tactics flowing out of Israel, and also from information provided by more than 50 programs across America teaching it.
Haganah is unlike a traditional martial art. It's a self-defense system created with everyone in mind. Regardless of experience, strength or size, Haganah helps individuals feel confident in their ability to defend themselves and their loved ones. All Haganah tactics are simple and build upon natural reactions to various situations. They are designed to work even at a great size and strength disadvantage.
Haganah teaches effective self-defense strategies to use to respond to the most common and most severe types of attacks. Continuous training of these same techniques reinforces them, so when an attack happens the response is immediate and natural. Practitioner's bodies "know" what to do to protect them. Haganah does not require years of training. After just one class students experience how easy it is to learn - and are amazed at what they can do. Just a few months yields proficiency. All of this occurs as a result of Haganah's Technique Funneling.
Individuals do not need to be in great shape to start Haganah. The more they do it, the better they feel. While they learn to defend themselves, Haganah helps individuals tone their body; lose weight; build self-confidence and self-esteem, and reduce stress.
Haganah provides a self-defense and fitness improvement solution for every type of individual - men, women, teens, young women, youth and law enforcement and military.
Fitness Impact Training (F.I.T.) conditioning programs use Haganah techniques combined with objective-specific exercise to help individuals lose weight and feel great while preparing them to succeed in the system. Elements of these are incorporated throughout the self-defense programs.
Haganah has two hand-to-hand self-defense specialty programs for people of all types and ages. One - Self-defense And Fast Escape (S.A.F.E.) - assumes in its approach that escape is a viable option for the victim. The other - Fierce Israeli Guerilla Hand-to-hand Tactics (F.I.G.H.T.) - assumes that escape may not be viable.
Haganah also has two weapons training programs - Israeli Combat Shooting (I.C.S.) and Israeli Tactical Knife-fighting (I.T.K.). Finally, it has Israeli Professional Tactical Training (I.P.T.T.) at its peak which is currently used to train various law enforcement and military personnel, including FBI, DEA, SWAT, Secret Service and others.
